July 17, 2010 | The Fortress in via Headwall Lakes, out via Chester Lake | 3000m | 21.9km | 1438m gain

With all the usual suspects holidaying, working, backpacking or sleeping I was up for a solo outing. This one turned me back last summer due to a bear closure and most of the usual gang have already done this one made good sense for a solo outing. I didn’t expect it to be busy but there would be someone along sooner or later if I had a problem. I saw one other solo scrambler and a group of four who stopped at the col.

There was a little more snow than expected but that also gave me a nice 250m or so glissade down from the Chester-Fortress col. Aside from trying to gain elevation toward the col too soon coming up from Headwall Lakes resulting in getting ledged up and having to backtrack, all went well. No bears, good weather.
