2021-06-19 | Sundance Canyon (philosophers knoll) | 1565 max | 1409 TH | 11.1 km | 388 TA | w/ Peter

With rain in the pm this half day outing fit the bill nicely. A little early for our 7am meet up, I swung into the Banff Canoe Club to check out the possible launching point. Banff townsite in the early hours are quite pleasant! Trailhead for the hike is the Cave and Basin and I don’t think I’ve been here for over 30 years, a fancy entrance with giftshop heads up the parking lot before a short walk to the historic buildings. National park style trails lead to Sundance canyon, we spurred off the main trail onto the horse trail and followed it up to another hikers spur up to “Philosophers Knoll” for an overview of the valley. Sundance canyon has some pretty waterfalls and was peaceful, we didn’t meet anyone until our early picnic back at the start of the loop. Parting ways, Peter to visit the museum area, and I stopped at a few Banff shops before getting out of dodge with the balance of the day errands and shopping.
