First snowy hike of the season, we chose West Bragg creek as a destination. I’ve hike all around the perimeter of this area but never in it. It is weirdly situated north of the Elbow area and south of Sibbald but isn’t connected very well with roads so has somehow stayed off my radar. A mecca for mountain biking and in the winter skiing, it has a huge parking lot with three toilet buildings – so clearly sees some regular use.

David stayed at the B&B so we got a special treat from Mrs. Hudak – a pastry with some jam combo on it that was really good with my coffee. Score!

The snow made this day magical and David couldn’t resist his usual tricks of trying to knock it loose but not get it down his neck. At one point David and I tried to hit Peter with snowballs but he was just out of range and acting like a cocky rooster knowing our odds of hitting him were small. One or two connected as we flailed away. We saw a variety of tracks in the snow including quite a few marks where jay sized birds had marked up the snow diving into it. It wasn’t apparent what they were up to as we didn’t see the actual birds, but it made for some interesting photo opportunities. By the end of the day we were all a little sore from the slipping style of walking and stumbling on things hidden by the snow.
