Prime Larch Super-Saturday!! Peter had plans later so we were on a carefully crafted schedule, but that worked out well to keep us on pace. Nothing wrong with random wandering in the larch trees at this time of year either! Lol. Striking out in the pre-dawn (not quite headlampish but close) we crushed the first few km before a few photos at Burstall Lakes, shortly after diverting up the Piggy drainage. Climbing to the Piggy Minus viewpoint first got us first light on larch there on our first break with views of the Robertson glacier. Enroute to the Piggy Plus col viewpoint Peter heard rockfall and spotted a lone Mountain goat up high on the slopes of Mt Burstall. Perhaps Henry or Henrietta? The view from the col was amazing with the French glacier taking centre stage. A possible foray into that valley was discussed. Back down in the drainage we soaked up the prime golden larches and enjoyed a lunch in their glory before strolling thru the remainder of the larch and then zooming the approach to keep our 1:30 finish time. Perfect outing and compared to other larchy areas, not very many people. Yay!
