20190601 | Monola Peak | elv | the lev | dist | ta | w/ Peter, Konrad, David

Super Saturday 2019 season opener! Monola peak is unofficially named and so named by virtue of its proximity to Monad Peak and Isola Peak. The 2017 season opener encompassed those two peaks so this was a reprise of the same stunningly cold knee/thighish ford of the Livingstone River right out of the gate. +2 is a perfectly acceptable temperature for such shenanigans. The trek to the peak is a gradually climbing series of cutblocks, logging roads, light bush with isothermic postholing, and finally some screen and small slabs to the broad summit. Sunny and great views with a fish/marine themed pun infused conversation catching up with the guys I haven’t seen much of since Snowpig.

The dry sunny summit provided the perfect spot for an extended stay and summit nap. On the way up we saw a small grizzly bear and numerous tracks in the mud, so this is definitely a healthy bear environment. A good start to the 2019 SS season!
