2021-09-10 – 12 | Beauvais Lake camping and paddling | w/ Shannon

Original plan was to leave work early enough to peg in and have an evening paddle, but a 4” bolt in my truck tire had other plans. We did get tarped up for the overnight showers however mostly before it got dark. A morning paddle in the calm conditions we great and got a few shots of the swan family, cool cloud formations and watched an osprey fishing. Coffee at camp and a nap rounded out the morning. Conditions improved with some breeze so we hiked around the lake CW this time. At the ‘Lower Smith Homestead’ we met Jack Smith and his daughter. Jack, 92, had lived here before it was a park and built the barn in 1947. It was interesting to meet them and hear some stories, Shannon helped him to his car after the visit. A late afternoon paddle had some wind but was nice and sunny. The propane firepit kept us company until bedtime. Sunday morning we opted to have an afternoon paddle so after some coffee I hiked up to Baldy lookout and rambled some of the lower trails, seeing little of note beside birds and big bull elk. Good quiet break with the trails to myself. After lunch we broke down camp and went for a windy but pleasant final paddle and then soak up a bit more sun before heading home. Good relaxing weekend.
