Fall road trip 2010: Moab UT Short but sweet, I made careful plans so as not to get too sidetracked however I knew the weather would play her part. Passing thru Moab on the way to the Grand Canyon last year I swore I’d be back… very lucky to get the chance so soon.
Day 1: Driving, driving and a bit more driving.
Day 2: San Rafael Swell: Chute Canyon, Little Wildhorse & Bell Canyons, the Goblins. A full day of hiking and photography that I had intended to end with a nearby campsite and a full moon stroll of the Goblins. Weather rolled in so I rolled out, bound for Canyonlands Island in the Sky for the next day.
Day 3: Arches NP: Devils Garden, Delicate Arch, Balanced Rock sunset. Low ceiling scrubbed plans for Island in the Sky so spent a superb day of solo hiking in Arches.
Day 4: Canyonlands Needles District: Druid Arch. Got a campsite at Squaw Flat and hiked to Druid Arch. A favorite solo hike of the trip. Also enjoyed a pretty decent sunset.
Day 5: Canyonlands Needles District: Peekaboo, roadside stops & blazing yellow Cottonwoods. Another favorite solo hike in pretty much perfect weather.
Day 6: Canyonlands Needles District: Chesler Park & The Joint. Joined by Moe, great way to catch up with a busy person is pin them down for some hiking.
Day 7: Needles to Moab: Newspaper Rock, Corona Arch, La Sal Mountain Loop: Some rock art, a short arch hike and a scenic drive. Great day.
Day 8: Moab area: Morning Glory Bridge, La Sal Mountain Loop, Fisher Towers. Another full day of glorious Moab sights from canyons to high lands to towers.
Day 9: Arches NP: Balanced Rock Sunrise, Windows, Double Arch, more arches and fins and more arches. Sad that it’s over but crammed a lot in.
Day 10: Arches NP: Had time for a sunrise shot but way too windy and rainy to do anything!. Driving 17 hours 1791 km home.
